Various vigils have taken place across the country to remember the victims of the Nice tragedy.

Consul of the French embassy, Pauline Tanchoux-Janin said: "We wanted to have a moment with the French and the Irish to remember. We are very thankful to the Irish because we have received thousands of messages of support. I think both countries are injured by this, and we have to be united."

Dr Henry Leperlier, a French lecturer with DIT said: "I think a lot of French people might think they will be safe here in Ireland but this attack was planned to cause the maximum disarray and to frighten people."

"I think a lot of people woke up yesterday morning and thought 'not again'. It was completely unexpected but it seemed to have been planned because the truck was refrigerated and this is the only kind of truck which was allowed through to the promenade."

"I understand the Irish person that people were worried about has been found now, which is great news."

A book of condolence will open in the Mansion House in Dublin on Monday, while Cork's City Hall will be making similar arrangements.
