British Prime Minister Theresa May could trigger article 50 as soon as next Tuesday.

The House of Commons is set to hold a final debate on the European Union Bill on Monday, where they will decide whether to approve two amendments added by the House of Lords.

This would clear the way for the Prime Minister to trigger Britain’s departure from the EU by Tuesday.

She is expected to officially notify the European Union on Tuesday with the idea being to act before Wednesday’s general election in the Netherlands, where the anti-EU Party for Freedom which is headed by Geert Wilders, is ahead in the polls.

Speaking today, Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox said "It will definitely be this week or next week or the week after."

One of the amendments voted through by the House of Lords would give MPs a ‘meaningful vote’ on the final Brexit deal before withdrawing.

The other change would guarantee the rights of EU citizens in the future.

Brexit could be delayed again if at least ten Tories oppose the Government or abstain in the vote on the Bill
