When smartphones are discussed many talk about the iPhone 6s, Samsung S7s and Sony Xperia Z5s of the world, but you don’t have to break the bank to get a good device. Certain manufacturers are investing heavily in the lower end of the market. This investment is starting to pay off for us, the consumer.

Microsoft purchased Lumia in 2013 and closed the deal in 2014. Since that time there has been a few eye catching devices, running the Windows phone operating system. One of the newest phones from Microsoft Lumia is the 650.

This device looks slightly different to previous Lumia models. This is a good looking phone. Microsoft have done away with the plastic, cheap look to produce a thin, light, beautiful device. This could be made by anyone - it looks like a high-end device, but only costs €200.

For your €200 you are getting a 5-inch HD screen device with Gorilla Glass 3. Colours look great on screen and it makes for enjoyable viewing. It has an impressive 8MP camera and a 5MP front camera. Both take good photos, but struggle slightly in low light.

Internally there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 Quad-core 1.3Ghz processor and 1GB of RAM. This was the only disappointing aspect of the device. What this means is that it’s slightly slow when jumping from app to app. That’s not a make-or-break factor for most people though.

There’s 16GB of storage built in and there’s the option to increase that to 200GB with a MicroSD card.

There’s a 2,000mAh battery, which isn’t too shabby either.
