A star-studded memorial service for Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds.

Fisher, who was known for playing Princess Leia in the film series, died on 27 December aged 60.

Her death came four days after she suffered a heart attack during a flight from London to Los Angeles.

Her mother, star of Singin' In The Rain, died of a suspected stroke a day after Fisher's death. She was 84.

Among the 125 mourners at Fisher's estate in Coldwater Canyon, Los Angeles, were Meryl Streep, Gwyneth Paltrow and Star Wars creator George Lucas.

Meg Ryan, Jamie Lee Curtis, Courtney Love and British actors Stephen Fry and Eric Idle were also seen at the residence.

A family friend told People magazine that Streep performed Fisher's favourite song Happy Days Are Here Again during the service.

She also gave a eulogy, as did Fry, Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd and British comedienne Tracey Ullman.

Fisher and her mother, who lives next door, are due to be buried at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills later, according to reports.

The sprawling location is the resting place of other celebrities including Lucille Ball, Florence Henderson, David Carradine and Bette Davis.

Broadway will dim its lights tonight in tribute to the pair.
