Samsung is one of the biggest players in the smartphone game. Their devices rival the best of the rest and their new Galaxy Note 7 looks to be no different.

We brought you inside the Irish launch event last week, and we have had a device for review since Friday afternoon. Here's the low-down.

The device sits at the top of the Phablet category, with its 5.7-inch screen. While this is large, it doesn't feel uncomfortable in the hand. It's easy enough to manage with one hand.

Internally there's an Octa-core processor and 4GB of RAM. That's a considerable amount of power in a very neat body. There's a 3500mAh battery, which is needed. After three days of heavy usage, I'd say I managed to get 15 hours out of the battery.

As with all of the flagship Samsung devices, the camera is a stand-out feature. The main camera is 12MP and captures stunning colour and boasts excellent image clarity.

Note-worthy:

There's a number of features on this device that outshine anything else on the market at the moment. First up: the S Pen, aka: the stylus. This may seem like a gimmick, but if you live and die by your Cloud-based calendar, this will be a great addition onto a device for you. The pen can be used to hover over appointments, magnifying the details.

It's possible to take notes, highlight key features of a document or just mess around with the stylus too. It's a nice addition that sits within the body of the phone.

The GIF creator is cool, but I'm not sure how much I'd actually use it on a week-by-week basis. Users can capture any video on the screen and share it in GIF format, without using a third party app.

Composing long emails or creating documents is incredibly comfortable on the Note 7. The large screen lends itself so well for work. That being said, it is also amazing for entertainment too. I streamed many episodes of Arrested Development on the Note over the weekend and can confirm that it makes for pleasant watching.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is available for pre-order now and will be in stores from September 2nd.
