Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the discovery of a woman's body in west Dublin yesterday.

It is believed the remains – discovered at Coolmine Woods between Clonsilla and Blanchardstown – may have been there for a number of weeks.

The body was discovered as part of a search for a 29-year-old woman who has been missing from the area since late-June.

Linda Christian was last seen in Blanchardstown on June 24th.

The body has yet to be identified and the cause of death determined.

The remains are believed to be in an advanced state of decomposition - and gardaí believe it may be necessary to use DNA sampling to identify the body.

The State Pathologist has carried out a preliminary examination at the scene, with a full post mortem due to be carried out later today.

Detectives are treating the death as suspicious and will wait until the remains are identified before they decide how to proceed with their investigation.

Independent News and Media reporter Conor Feehan has been following the story. He said gardaí were acting on information received when they discovered the body:

“The gardaí do seem to be anxious to talk to a friend of the person who was reported missing and if they can identify the remains, they will certainly be very anxious to talk to this person,” he said.

“They believe this person may have gone abroad since that lady was reported missing and they are anxious to track that friend down.”
