Gardaí are examining DNA profiles in the case of boy who's been missing from Dublin for 30 years.
Philip Cairns went missing from Rathfarnham in Dublin in October 1986.
The 13-year-old had been walking back to school when he disappeared.
Gardaí confirmed yesterday that a member of the public came forward with new information last month and gave a statement at Rathfarnham station.
New lines of inquiry have been opened after detectives corroborated aspects of the story.
"These lines of inquiry include interviewing people and cross referencing DNA profiles with those on items recovered as part of this investigation," gardaí said.
"At this point in time, these new lines of inquiry have not yielded positive results. However, the investigation is very much active and ongoing."
