Two men have died in a fire in Co Sligo.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Market Street in the town at 5pm this morning.

Two men aged in their 60s and 30s and believed to be from the one family - were rushed to Sligo University Hospital were they were pronounced dead.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination - however at this stage, Gardaí say there's to suggest anything suspicious.

Protests will take place outside maternity hospitals in Dublin, Limerick, Cork and Galway later against the government's decision to hand over control of the New National Maternity Hospital to the Sisters of Charity.

It follows yesterday's announcement by the board of St Vincent's Healthcare group that it is going to review the status of the project, because of the 'controversy and misinformation' that has arisen over it.

It puts the future of the new hospital in jeopardy, despite a strongly-worded statement issued by the Health Minster last night insisting that he was
fully committed to delivering what he said was the 'long overdue' facility.

Efforts to locate two missing crew of Rescue 116 will step up a gear this weekend.

A significant dive operation will take place, with over 100 divers traveling to Mayo to aid in the operation.

It's over a month since the Coast Guard helicopter crashed on Blackrock Island.

Captains Dara Fitzpatrick and Mark Duffy have since been recovered and laid to rest however Winchmen Paul Ormsby and Ciaran Smith remain at sea.

Security has been stepped up across France ahead of tomorrow's election after a policeman was shot dead on Paris's prestigious Champs Elysees on Thursday.

Candidates have clashed over how to protect the country.

The attacker, who apparently supported Islamic State, had already served time for attempted murder, and was arrested again in February.

Emergency services are at the scene of a truck crash on the N7 in Dublin this morning.

It's understood the vehicle tipped over on its side on the slip road from N7 Naas Rd inbound to M50 South.

There are no reports of any injuries.
