Fast-food chain McDonald's has officially opened its newest restaurant in Dublin - bringing its employee numbers here to 5,000.

The new drive-thru outlet on East Wall Road has created 60 new jobs as part of a €1.7m investment.

The company now employs staff across 90 restaurants.

Dublin GAA star Ger Brennan was on hand to officially open the new restaurant, which features self-order kiosks and Samsung Galaxy tablets.

McDonald's owner operator, Amir Afsar, said: "We're very proud to create 60 new jobs in the East Wall community with the opening of this new restaurant, which has a strong family focus at its heart."

McDonald’s director of operations, Jimmy Edwards, added: "We're known for providing customers with a great experience in terms of both tasty food and a relaxed 'atmosphere.

"We've listened to what customers want and we're confident that elements we've introduced in the East Wall Road restaurant will be warmly received by the public."

The chain opened its first Irish restaurant in 1977 on Dublin's Grafton Street.
