A man is in a serious condition in hospital after he was stabbed multiple times while walking his dog in Kilkenny City.

The victim, who is in his late 50s, was attacked outside a city centre shopping centre shortly after 2:30pm.

He was brought by ambulance to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny.

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30s in connection with the attack.

He is being held in Kilkenny Garda Station.
