A man has died after being stabbed in County Offaly.

Emergency services were called to a house in Green Road, Ballyfore, Edenderry at around 7.50pm yesterday evening, following reports that a man had received serious stab wounds.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man - who was 54 and believed to be Italian - was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s understood the man’s partner and her two sons were inside the house at the time.

A 17-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and is being held at Tullamore Garda Station.

Gardaí are treating the stabbing as a domestic incident and are not looking for anyone else as part of their investigations.

The house is sealed off to allow for examinations by the State Pathologist and Garda technicians this morning.
