A 62-year-old man has been charged with the murder of another man in Kerry.

The driver of the car, 74-year-old Anthony O'Mahony of Ardoughter, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after 11.00am this morning Mr Ferris was brought by detectives to the courthouse on Ashe Street.

The farmer, who was dressed in a dark grey suit and blue shirt, has been in custody since yesterday.

Detective Sergeant John Heaslip of Listowel garda station told the court he arrested Mr Ferris shortly before midnight last night and around a half hour later charged him, under caution, with the murder of Mr O'Mahony.

Mr Ferris made no reply when charged.

Judge James O'Connor remanded the accused in custody and ordered him to reappear before Tralee District Court next Wednesday April 12th.

Mr Ferris' solicitor Risteard Pierse said his client understood he would be remanded in custody, and said it is likely will apply for bail at the High Court next week.

Mr Pierse expressed concern about his client's mental state - adding he had spoken with his doctor.

Judge O'Connor made an order that all appropriate medical care be made available to Mr Ferris.
