A man accused of taking part in the fatal shooting of a man at a boxing event in Dublin is fighting extradition from Northern Ireland.

Kevin Murray was arrested last night in connection with the death at the Regency Hotel in February.

The 46-year-old was detained in Strabane, Co Tyrone, on foot of a European arrest warrant.

He is wanted in Dublin for questioning over murder and firearm offences.

It comes seven months after David Byrne was shot dead when a gang of men burst into the Dublin hotel during a boxing weigh-in last February.

The killing, which sparked a string of gangland murders, has been linked to an ongoing feud in the capital between the Kinahan and Hutch gangs.

Belfast Recorder's Court heard today that Mr Murray had recently undergone an MRI scan for suspected multiple sclerosis.

The judge requested a medical report before she would consider bail.

Further extradition hearing will take place this month.
