Security researchers have warned Mac users about a dangerous virus that can take screenshots of their device every 30 seconds and access photos and videos.

The malware, named Mokes.A, has the ability to record everything typed onto a device's keyboard. This, along with the screenshots, can lead to hackers gaining access to user's bank details and other sensitive information.

While the virus has been discovered by researchers in Kaspersky Lab, it's not known how it reaches the device in the first place. Stefan Ortloff of that research team has recommended that Mac owners take standard security precautions and run anti-virus software on their device to identify and destroy any viruses.

Mr Ortloff added "Don’t install software from untrusted sources, and keep the operating system and applications updated."
