A separate Reuters/Ipsos poll gave respondents the option to choose from Clinton and Trump, plus two other candidates - Libertarian Gary Johnson and the Green Party's Jill Stein.

The results also indicated that Clinton was leading Trump by 6-percentage-points. Johnson came in third with 8-percentage-points and Stein had about 2.

Donald Trump has been causing divisions in his party this month, and has faced criticism from both sides over a fued with the parents of a Muslim American Army captain killed in Iraq.

Last week 70 Republicans wrote a letter calling for the RNC to stop helping Trump, whose actions they said were "divisive and dangerous."

America will go to the polls on November 8th to elect the 45th president of the United States.
