Ian Bailey has been arrested as part of an attempt to extradite him to France where he is wanted to stand trial for the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

He was arrested inside the Criminal Courts of Justice just a few minutes after the High Court endorsed the European Arrest Warrant.

His extradition hearing has been scheduled for Friday week and there was no objection to bail for the 60-year-old.

When Justice Tony Hunt told Mr Bailey that he could consent to his surrender, he shook his head in disagreement.

This is the second time the French have tried to extradite him in relation to the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier who was beaten to death near her holiday home in west Cork in 1996, but this time he’s wanted to stand trial.

When the warrant was read to him, the court heard he described it as “severely flawed”.

He was granted bail on a number of conditions.

He had to enter a bond of €15,000 and agree to hand over his expired passport and stay at his home address in west Cork.
