Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe is to receive a posthumous award for bravery today, almost four years after his death.

The Scott Medal will be presented at a ceremony in the Garda College in Templemore this morning.

The medal is An Garda Síochána's highest honour. Previous recipients include Detective Garda Jerry McCabe.

Detective Donohoe will be posthumously awarded the gold medal for exceptional courage and bravery.

The father-of-two was shot dead in the line of duty during a robbery at Lordship Credit Union in Louth, in January 2013.

No person has ever been charged in connection with the killing.

The medal is in the form of a Celtic cross and was presented to the force in 1923 by Colonel Walter Scott of New York City Police Department.

A number of other members of the force will also receive silver and bronze Scott Medals.

Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald and Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan will attend and address the event.
