A man has been jailed for four years for stabbing a drug dealer to death over a €100 debt outside an apartment complex in Dublin.

William Gilsenan, went on trial for the murder of Edward Fitzgerald - but was convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter last month.

On October 17th 2014, Mr Fitzgerald - a known drug dealer - drove to Mr Gilsenan’s home at Larch Hill in Santry, Dublin 9 to collect an outstanding debt.

Following an altercation, Mr Gilsenan stabbed him twice with a kitchen knife.

A witness told Gardaí he then saw the 24-year-old wipe the knife clean and throw it away.

Mr Fitzgerald was pronounced dead in Beaumont hospital a short time later.

After the sentencing this morning, the victim’s sister  Nicola O'Dea said the family feel let down by the sentence:

“Our family are very disappointed at the sentence handed down this morning. It seems unfair that our brother’s life was taken at 29 years of age and he will be out before he even reaches that age,” she said.
