Canadian police are searching for an Irish man who went missing after diving off a bridge.

Reports say the 26-year-old man dove off a bridge over Beaver Creek, British Columbia on Friday.

He failed to surface and a search was launched.

Using two boats and a dog, police searched Beaver Creek, Kinbasket Lake and the shoreline.

The search was suspended in the evening and is due to resume today.

Members of an underwater recovery team are involved in the operation.

Police say they have been in contact with the man's family and friends offering support.

The Department of Foreign Affairs say it is aware of an incident involving an Irish citizen.

The Irish embassy in Ottawa is liaising closely with the local authorities and the department says it is also providing consular assistance.
