Channel 4 news anchor Jon Snow has spoken about the marriage equality referendum, saying that love between two human beings should be respected “whatever their sex”.

During an interview on The Pat Kenny Show, Mr Snow said: "The democratic world is moving towards and understanding and acceptance of and equal rights of transsexual and gay people and I think that's right."

He pointed out that in his role as a journalist “it’s not for me as a completely objective hack to say what anybody in Ireland should do.”

Praising comments made by the Church on the issue, he pointed out that, “Even The Pope said, ‘Who am I to judge?’ which I thought was a lovely thing to say. I mean, very difficult for him to say, ‘Well, I’d like to legalise it’ and all the rest of it within the Church. He’ll never be able to do that.”

“But things are all moving in that direction and if a human loves a human whatever their sex it’s got to be respected,” he added.

At 73, Mr Snow has been the face of Channel 4 news for over two decades now and he joined Pat in studio to discuss the changing face of journalism and its future along with the upcoming British general election.
