Mr Obama's roots in Ireland go back to 1850, when 19-year-old Falmouth Kearney left Moneygall to begin a new life in the United States.

Falmouth Kearney married Charlotte Holloway and the couple - along with several children - lived in Deerfield, Ohio.

Charlotte Kearney died in 1877, and Falmouth Kearney died the following year.

They were survived by five daughters and at least three sons.

Barack Obama is the great-great grandson of Falmouth Kearney's youngest daughter, Mary Ann.

Mr Obama also visited his ancestral home during his visit to Ireland in 2011.
