A number of schools in England are trialing the use of body cameras to deal with student behaviour.

Teachers in two schools are using the cameras in classrooms and are being given the option to film when necessary.

The devices securely store footage on a cloud-like platform. The three-month pilot scheme reortedly started in last month.

Tom Ellis, principal lecturer at the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies at the University of Portsmouth, told The Guardian: "Most schools now have some level of problems with low-level background disorder in classrooms and the teachers have become quite fed up with not being able to teach". 

However, the two schools taking part in the trial are not being named.

Similar technology was rolled out in US schools from 2015.

The move comes on foot of a Times Educational Supplement (TES), which found that more than one-third of teachers would be willing to wear a body camera in the classroom.

The main reason given was wanting the technology to combat misbehaviour by pupils.
