She received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination - no arrests have been made.

Maynooth University says its thoughts are with the student and her family, and it is working closely with gardaí.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information, particularly those who were in the vicinity of Maynooth Village/Moyglare Abbey Estate between 7.30pm and 9.15pm Sunday night, to contact them.

They can call Leixlip garda station on 01-666-7800, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800-666-111 or any garda station.
