A two-year-old boy has died after a chest of drawers fell on him in Co Antrim.

The incident happened at a family home in Cloughmills yesterday.

Archie Tafts was taken to hospital for treatment but later died.

It is being treated as a tragic accident.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "As would be normal procedure with any sudden death, a report will be prepared for the information of the coroner".

His parents Philip and Nicola, along with older brother Jack, are being comforted by relatives.

They have thanked all who have expressed their condolences.

But in a statement, his parents have asked for privacy.

"They, along with their extended family, have suffered a tremendous loss and they wish to be left alone to grieve for their son, without intrusion from the press", the statement says.

"Archie’s parents and extended family would like to thank all who have expressed their condolences at this distressing and difficult time however as this is a personal tragedy for them, they will be making no public comment", it adds.

Heather Loughridge is a playgroup assistant in the nursery Archie attended.

Darryl Wilson is deputy mayor in the Causeway Coast and Glens. He says he cannot comprehend the pain the family must be feeling.
