The fire broke out at a house on High street in Drimoleague in West Cork at around 1am.

Two units of the fire brigade along with other emergency services attended the scene overnight, however the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

A post mortem is due to be carried out on the man's body later this morning.

Gardai are examining the scene today however it's believed the cause of the fire was accidental.
