While our phones can do more than ever before, manufacturers are still working to produce a phone with a battery that will last all day long.

If you are an iPhone user running iOS10, there are certain steps you can take to preserve some precious battery.

(1) 'Background Refresh'

It may or may not surprise you to learn that apps on your phone are set to automatically refresh, even when they are not running. This is necessary for those looking to never miss a Facebook mention or a Snap. For the most part, however, it's simply a battery drain. Take some time to disable this feature on apps that you do not need updates from.

Settings > General > Background App Refresh

(2) Fitness tracking

If you have a wearable or are simply not interested in how many steps you take, disable the fitness tracking software that runs on the iPhone by default.

This can be found: Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness.

(3) Wifi and Bluetooth

It's important to use Wifi where possible to avoid a hefty phone bill, but if you're looking to save some battery, turn off Wifi and Bluetooth when they are not in use. Phones are set up to search for an open network to connect to. This happens constantly unless both features are turned off.

Swipe up from the bottom of your screen and disable Wifi and Bluetooth.
