16 people have been arrested for offences including theft, robbery and burglary in County Kilkenny as part of Operation Thor.

A number of people appeared before the courts and a further 16 people were arrested on warrant, following a Community Policing Initiative. 

Gardaí, together with the Department of Agriculture and Revenue, also seized 30 horses in the Wetlands area of Kilkenny.

The horses have been removed to a safe environment.

Officers say "the purpose of the operation was to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activity, apprehend criminals and to enhance community engagement".

Operation Thor is the special national Garda anti-crime programme.
