When it comes to planning your weekends during the summer season, you really are spoiled for choice. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Mastercard to bring you the ultimate event guide every weekend for the rest of the summer. Your weekend starts here:
Dublin
George A. Romero Tribute: Night of the Living Dead
Zombies? Check. Seriously stylish cinema? Double check.
Enjoy a special tribute to the master of horror and true cinema maverick, George A. Romero, with a screening of the iconic Night of the Living Dead in Smithfield’s beautifully designed Lighthouse cinema on Saturday July 22nd.
Grab a craft beer from the bar and a huge bag of popcorn, and settle in for one of the most unique film experiences you’ll ever see on the big screen.
Vintage lovers and chilled out casual browsers alike will love whiling away an afternoon in one of Dublin’s best markets. On every Saturday from 12-6pm, the Ha’Penny flea has Vintage Clothes, Designer threads, Vinyl Records, Retro Furniture, and bangin’ music playing from speakers throughout the market to add a real buzz to your weekend.
Top tip: pop across the road after you’ve perused the crafts to pick up some freshly baked bread from Il Fornaio Enoteca, a charming Italian bakery.
‘Playful days and curious nights’ is the theme of this intriguing event of interactive cultural experiences set across 14 different venues for Dublin’s annual international festival of science, arts, design & technology.
Join in on a guided walking tour of the National Botanic Gardens on Saturday afternoon, where answers will be revealed to questions you never even knew you had (which plants were responsible for the creation of waterproof paint, for example, and how a seed head inspired the creation of Velcro.)
Sunday will see a riddle-filled treasure hunt throughout the city, with lots of “curious stops along the way.”
Hone your cultural spirit with the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s latest additions - four works of art by contemporary Irish artists which represent a signal moment of achievement with the artist’s practice and capture a moment in time of Irish culture.
Works of digital footage, VHS displays and projections will join paintings by Irish contemporary legend Alice Maher, and Louis le Brocquy. Explore further with the museum’s current Lucian Freud exhibition, or (fingers crossed!) if the sun is a-shining wander through the outdoor sculptures in the gardens.
Wicklow
In its 12th year, the Bray Air Display promises to be an "aerobatic extravaganza" that includes some of the most skilled aerobatic performers from all over the world, over 22 aircrafts and 12 jets!
An award-winning display makes it an exhilarating day out for couples, families and aviation enthusiasts alike.

Galway
Now in its sixth year, this fantastic offshoot of the (equally brilliant) Galway International Arts Festival is set to be the largest the city has seen yet, with more than 100 events, including theatre, visual art, poetry, music, comedy, street spectacles, and spoken word.
Must-see shows over the weekend range from vibrant tunes at the Fringe Festival Band Showcase to an absolutely hilariously improvised comedy show, where gas scenes are made up on the spot based entirely on audience suggestions.
The streets will be hopping with pop-up events, and everyone in the city gets really involved with all the excitement.
Ever wanted to build a ginormous cardboard fort? Now you actually can, by taking part in a spectacular architectural event devised by the French artist Olivier Grossetête, where an audience will build an entire building out of cardboard boxes!
Over four days, thousands of cardboard boxes will be transformed into the building blocks of a democratically assembled building, created solely through human power and collective endeavour.
Watch the structure rise, rise, rise, and be sure to get a prime viewing spot for the “massive celebratory demolition” on Sunday as this cardboard creation comes crashing down. An adult childhood dream come true.
Cork
Let’s face it, it’s just not the weekend if you’re not treating yourself to a tasty snack or two. This farmer’s market in Midleton is known as the original farmer’s market in Ireland, and was formed by Darina Allen.
Open every Saturday morning from 9am-1pm, you’ll find homemade breads, juices, vegetables, and gourmet snacks ranging from Ardsallagh goat cheese to irresistibly soft Lobster Rolls made on the spot using the freshest catch of the morning. Best part? Live music in the market varies from funky ukulele bands to classical orchestras.
