Evanne Cahill, the woman who made the charity benefit possible sent a birthday card to fellow Wicklow native Day Lewis asking him to become an advocate for the charity.

Three months would pass before she received a personal phone call from the My Left Foot actor personally apologising for not responding to her correspondence sooner.

Special guests at the event included President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina, Olympic medallist Katie Taylor, U2’s Bono and the Edge, singer Chris De Burgh and his daughter and former Miss World Rosanna Davidson.
