The White House has barred several media outlets from a press conference held by President Trump's Press Secretary, Sean Spicer.

Journalists from the BBC, New York Times, CNN, The LA Times, and others weren't allowed into a scheduled briefing this afternoon.

Instead, Mr Spicer selected a handful of right-wing outlets including Breitbart, Fox News, ABC and the Wall Street Journal.

Others from Time Magazine and the Associated Press who had been due to attend decided to boycott the meeting in protest at the exclusion of their colleagues.

Addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland today, President Trump renewed his attack on what he called, the “fake media” - again describing it as the “enemy of the people” - and defended his opening weeks in power.

“I want you all to know we are fighting the fake news,” he said. “It's fake. Phony. Fake. A few days ago I called the fake news the enemy of the people, and they are.”

“There are some great reporters around, they are talented and honest as the day is long; that is great.

“But there are some terrible, dishonest people that do a tremendous disservice to our country and to our people.”

Elsewhere, it has been reported that President Trump's Chief of Staff privately asked the FBI to prevent any news stories coming out about Trump campaigners' communication with Russia.
