Yet another political party has been formed in advance of the general election.

The Registrar of political parties has been notified of the grouping called 'Anti Austerity Alliance-People Before Profit'.

It is an effective merger of the two political groupings who hope to elect enough TDs together in order to be an official Dáil party and secure speaking time.

In a statement on Deputy Richard Boyd Barrett's website this morning, he says the initiative is backed by 4 TDs - Joe Higgins, Richard Boyd-Barrett, Ruth Coppinger and Paul Murphy - and 28 Councillors, and further details will be announced in about three weeks time. The group plans to field up to 40 candidate in the general election.

The party will not "participate in any government with the parties of the Irish establishment i.e. Fine Gael, Fianna Fail, Labour and or any right-wing parties/independents," Mr Boyd Barrett said.

"Instead we are fighting for a genuinely left government that will ensure that the economy and country’s resources are used for people needs not profits," he added.
