Facebook, meanwhile, remains steady in Ireland. Some 64% of Irish people have Facebook accounts, with 2% more users logging on every daily, up to 74% in the quarter.

The number with Instagram accounts remained static, though daily user figures climbed 5% to 55%.

The number of daily LinkedIn users dipped 2% to 12%, but there was a 2% increase in registrations. Pinterest experienced a notable drop of 5% in daily users.

Facebook Messenger is the most downloaded messaging app. It is now used by 53% of people, moving two points away from Whatsapp, which is used by 49%.

Snapchat trails in third in the area of social messaging, with 28%.

While dating app Tinder experienced a 7% in users for the quarter, it is used by a mere 6% of Irish adults.
