A report from Newsweek has revealed that Donald Trump's business dealings with the likes of Russia and Iran could jeopardise US national security if he is elected to the White House.

While Newsweek's in-depth examination of Trump Organisation, published yesterday, found no evidence whatsoever that the company has engaged in illegal activities, it does paint a picture of "an enterprise with deep ties to global financiers, foreign politicians and even criminals".

The publication makes the case that the Republican nominee and his family would be required to cut all ties with these parties should Trump win the presidential race, stating that "if Trump moves into the White House and his family continues to receive any benefit from the company, during or even after his presidency, almost every foreign policy decision he makes will raise serious conflicts of interest and ethical quagmires."

Meanwhile, a clean break may prove almost impossible, due to "a web of contractual entanglements that could not be just cancelled".

The piece warns:

"Any government wanting to seek future influence with President Trump could do so by arranging for a partnership with the Trump Organisation, feeding money directly to the family or simply stashing it away inside the company for their use once Trump is out of the White House."

Newsweek contrasts how the Trump Organisation operates, with the family earning many millions of dollars off its back every year, with the under-fire Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation.

Though there have been allegations that Hillary Clinton gave preferential treatment to foundation contributors while she was US Secretary of State, Newsweek says this "makes no sense" as all cash contributed to the foundation was publicly disclosed and went to charitable efforts.
