Three men have been arrested after a shot was fired during a Garda pursuit in Co Kildare last night.

The incident began at around 9.30pm last night in Monasterevin when Gardaí spotted a car driving at speed towards the Kildare Road.

After the black Audi estate car was again spotted at an area known as Ashgrove, gardaí began following the car.

During the pursuit, the car stopped at Larch Hill.

A male passenger got out and fired a shot from what is believed to have been a shotgun.

Nobody was injured in the incident, but armed gardaí were informed.

At around 10.30pm, gardaí from the Regional Support Unit stopped a sliver Hyundai car at Pollardstown, Newbridge.

Three men - aged 23, 27 and 32 - were arrested in connection with the earlier incident.

They are being held at Portlaoise and Tullamore Garda Stations under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

Gardaí say their investigations are continuing.
