Three CNN journalists have resigned after the US news network was forced to retract a story.
The now retracted article on CNN.com claimed that the US Congress was investigating a "Russian investment fund with ties to Trump officials".
The story connected entrepreneur and Trump ally Anthony Scaramucci to the alleged investigation into the fund.
After the story was published, Mr Scaramucci insisted: "I did nothing wrong. They like hitting friends of [President Trump] who are loyal advocates on his behalf."
In an editor's note published early Saturday, the network said: "That story did not meet CNN's editorial standards and has been retracted. Links to the story have been disabled. CNN apologises to Mr Scaramucci."
The New York Times reports that the retraction has led to the resignations of the story's writer Thomas Frank, executive editor of investigations Lex Harris, and investigative editor and reporter Eric Lichtblau.
A spokesperson for CNN said it had accepted the resignations of the three employees.
Earlier, Mr Scaramucci had described CNN's decision to retract the story and apologise as 'classy move', saying he was moving on after the incident.
.@CNN did the right thing. Classy move. Apology accepted. Everyone makes mistakes. Moving on. https://t.co/lyVajCKNHx

President Trump himself, however, offered a more gloating response. In a series of tweets today, the long-time critic of CNN criticised the network's "fake news".
He later claimed: "Fake News CNN is looking at big management changes now that they got caught falsely pushing their phony Russian stories."
He also used the opportunity to again hit out at a number of other major US media outlets - including NBC, ABC, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.
Wow, CNN had to retract big story on "Russia," with 3 employees forced to resign. What about all the other phony stories they do? FAKE NEWS!
