The first ever crisp sandwich cafe has opened in Belfast, and lovers of the tasty treat are hoping one might be on the way to Dublin.

The cafe came about after a website, UlsterFry.com, did a mock article about one such cafe.

They were then approached by an owner wanting to start one. Now they have been approached to open one in Dublin too.

UlsterFry.com has said: "Not only did people believe it, but people wanted to believe it and the story went viral."

"Thousands of people loved the idea of buying a crisp sandwich on the high-street or in a cafe. We probably loved the idea the most, that’s why we put it out on the internet with a pinch of salt and vinegar and the fun intention of 'just imagine'."

They are selling crisp sandwiches with soup and chips for €5 each. They offer Tayto, Walkers and even Monster Munch for your sandwich.

Andrew McMenamin is now the owner of the Simply Crispy Cafe, located at 8 Bedford Street in the city.

But he told Today FM earlier it has not all been plain sailing.

These hungry customers in Belfast say it is about going back to simpler times.
