Swimming and bathing restrictions are being implemented at another of the country's beaches.

Clare County Council introduced a public bathing advisory notice are Kilkee this morning after elevated levels of microbiological contamination were recorded in a routine bathing water sample at the beach.

The Council was acting on the advice of the HSE but say the warning could be lifted as early as tomorrow.

Monitoring is ongoing and efforts are underway to identify the bacteria source.

In the meantime, bathers are advised not to swim in the sea at the popular beach and Clare County Council will issue further updates where necessary.

Advisories are also in place at seven beaches in north county Dublin, and two in county Cork.

Members of the public planning to swim at any beach in Ireland are advised to check water quality levels on the EPA website or noticeboard at the entrance to each beach.
