Perhaps you’re a mathematical genius, for whom a little mental geometry is nothing? Perhaps you can work out that you won’t be run over by a speeding morning commuter late for a meeting, and you don’t need to endure the tedium of waiting for the ‘Red Man’ to go green?

Well, at least the rest of us will have our mornings brightened up by a bit of ‘Red Man’ boogie-ing.

Car manufacturers Smart have created an experiment in Lisbon to test the theory that people will be happier to wait for the lights if that wait were a little less boring.

The ‘Dancing Traffic Light’ grabbed attention by showing a ‘Red Man’ busting moves rather than the static square we’ve been used to for years.

The dancing man is actually a low-res capture of real people, who were enticed into a booth and offered a selection of toe-tapping tunes to choose from. A video feed of their real-time twerking and crunking kept more than 80% of busy pedestrians from crossing the road without permission.
