Watch: St Patrick's Day parades take place across the country

Thousands of people have been attending parades across Ireland to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

The parade in Dublin city has wrapped up, but celebrations are expected to continue long into the night.

An estimated crowd of 500,000 people turned out for today's event.

Reporter Roisín Treacy spoke to parade Grand Marshall Brendan O’Carroll

These girls are from the Kilgore College Rangerettes & All-Stars in Texas.

They've been telling how much work they've put in to preparing for today's parade:

Meanwhile. the Cork city parade kicked off at Parnell Bridge at 1pm.

The parade travelled down South Mall, Grand Parade, and from Patrick St to Merchants Quay Broadcaster.

Cork native George Hook was this year's Grand Marshal. He says it's a huge honour to lead the parade through the city where he grew up:

Other parades took place in towns and cities across the country, from Waterford to Galway. An estimated 80,000 turned up for the parade in Limerick, while the event in Bray, Co Wicklow is said to have drawn a crowd of 40,000.

There were also parades in many locations in Northern Ireland, including Belfast.
