The office messaging service only launched in February of 2014 but it is already valued at $2.8bn. The product streamlines communication between employees, bringing all communications together in one place in a way that is instantly searchable, and available on all devices.

At the latest count Slack had over 750,000 daily active users, making it the world's fastest growing office app.

Teams within organisations including eBay, Yelp, Airbnb, BuzzFeed, Sony, NBC and The New York Times are known to have reconfigured their communications around the app.

“The launch of our European headquarters is a significant milestone for Slack as we grow our business,” said James Sherrett, Slack’s Dublin-based accounts team lead, "With an initial focus on customer experience and account management, our Dublin office will play a central role in our international footprint."

Taoiseach Enda Kenny spoke at the launch: "I'd like to welcome the arrival of Slack Technologies into the Digital Hub in Dublin and also to Ireland, the digital hub of Europe. By choosing Ireland as the location of its European HQ, it is reaffirming the reputation of Ireland as the location for young innovative technology companies."

The Dublin jobs are being created with the support of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.
