One-third of Irish men aged between 17 to 24 use apps or dating sites to find casual sex, according to a new survey.

It also found that more than 70% of men and women claim to have had a one night stand.

That is according to the Irish Times sex survey of over 12,000 people, which was published today.

Heterosexual men were more likely to have had one-night stands, at 73%, compared with 66% of women.

While 37% of homosexual men reported having had 20 or more one-night stands, compared with 9% of heterosexual males.

It says that just 7% of participants had not had sex in the past year, while 44% of those surveyed have sex at least once a week.

This includes 14% who say they have sex three or more times a week.

But it found that sexual activity of at least once a week falls 'considerably' the longer people have been together.

It goes from three-quarters of those in relationships of between six months and two years, 60% for couples together for two to seven years and 41% for those together for seven to 15 years.

Kate Holmquist spoke to George on the Right Hook about the findings:

Emily Power Smith is a clinical sexologist. She told Newstalk Breakfast one night stands could mean different things to different people.
