A suspicious object found in the vicinity of Christ the Redeemer Primary School on Lagmore Drive in the town has been examined.

The PSNI says all of the roads it had closed as a precaution have now reopened.

Any residents who had to leave their homes are now being allowed to return home.

PSNI Chief Inspector Norman Haslett said: "This alert has caused severe disruption to the local community this morning and I would appeal to anyone with any information to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

The PSNI tweeted earlier to inform people of the alert:

It as PSNI investigators warned of a heightened threat from dissident Republicans in the run-up to the centenary of the 1916 rising.

Elsewhere today, a viable device has been found in Derry.
