Debris has been found in the search for a missing aircraft off the coast of Antrim.

The debris was located north of Glenarm by a yacht that had responded to the Mayday relay broadcast and joined the search efforts, the UK Coastguard said.

The wreckage has been confirmed as belonging to the microlight aircraft that was reported missing yesterday.

Two passengers are believed to have been on board the plane, which had taken off from Derry Airport for Scotland.

A major air and sea search was launched after an alarm was raised at around 8.30pm last night.

An Irish Coastguard helicopter, a helicopter from Scotland and five RNLI lifeboats took part in the operation.

The search resumed this morning after being briefly suspended overnight due to fog.

Police are providing support to the families.
