Wayne Rooney reached a milestone in his career today, by netting his 249th goal for Manchester United, thus matching Bobby Charlton's record with the club which previously stood for four decades.

Today's 4-0 FA Cup victory over Reading was Rooney's first United appearance since December 17th and has taken him over 12 years to equal Charlton's record, since first arriving at the club in 2004.

The humbled striker told eir Sport after the game that it was 'a really proud moment for me,' and said that to be on a par with Charlton is an honour.

But despite the magnitude of Rooney's achievement, it initially looked like Reading's George Evans wasn't impressed, when he appeared to decline Rooney's invitation to do the traditional post-game ritual of swapping jerseys.

Evans has since tweeted to clarify that he did agree to swap shirts with Rooney, but wanted to wait until the pair were in the Old Trafford tunnel before making the exchange.

Rooney has no immediate plans to depart the Manchester club, meaning he has a strong chance of surpassing the record he currently shares with Charlton.
