The Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan is defending the appointment of her husband to a team investigating alleged leaks of information to journalists.
Detective Superintendent Jim McGowan is one of two senior gardaí leading the investigation.
A garda superintendent has already been arrested and questioned as part of the probe.
Speaking at a garda graduation ceremony in Templemore, Commissioner O'Sullivan denied that any tapping or monitoring of journalist's phones was taking place.
And she had this to say about her husband leading the investigation team.
O'Sullivan is also welcoming proposed changes to bail laws.
The coalition is to allow for the electronic of tagging of suspects on bail and will make judges explain why they are releasing suspects.
Gardai will also be allowed arrest people suspected of being in breach of bail without having to get a warrant.
