Gardaí have launched a murder investigation after a man in his 30s was shot dead in the car park of a pub in Dublin.

Darren Kearns was shot a number of times by a lone gunman through the window of his car, while his wife was sitting beside him.

The incident occurred in the car park of Cumiskey’s Pub on Blackhorse Avenue, adjacent to the Phoenix Park.

A light colour 5 series BMW was found burnt out a short distance away on a Laneway off Regal Park – registration number 04–D –35151.

Inspector Tony Twomey from Cabra Garda Station is appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to contact them.

The man's body was moved to the city morgue last night for a post-mortem examination.

Anyone who was near Cumiskey's Pub between 4pm and 6pm yesterday afternoon, or may know anything about the burnt out car, is being asked to contact Cabra Garda Station or on the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.

Local TD Joe Costello says it bears all the hallmarks of a gangland shooting.

He has called for Cabra Garda Station, which is only open part-time, to be fully reopened, saying the local community would very much welcome a full-time station.
