A teenager remains in garda custody in Co Cork this evening following an armed siege near Kinsale overnight.

Gardai from the Regional Support Unit and Garda Crisis Negotiators were called in after shots were fired from a house at Minane Bridge.

Shortly before 2.30am this morning, the 18-year-old man was arrested and a loaded shotgun was recovered.

He is being detained at Bandon garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

The scene is preserved for a technical examination and the investigation is ongoing.

Gardaí were alerted to an incident at the house in Minane Bridge near Kinsale at around 10:30pm last night.

The area was sealed off and the Garda Regional Support unit was called to the scene, after it emerged a man inside the house was armed with a shotgun.

A number of shots were fired from the house - but nobody was injured.

Armed gardaí from the Regional Support Unit and garda negotiators attended the scene and made contact with the man.

A cordon was put in place and a neighbouring house was evacuated as a precaution. Two people from the house were removed to safety.

Shortly before 2:30am this morning, the man was found in a nearby outhouse by gardaí. He was arrested and a loaded shotgun was recovered.
