A man and a woman are still being questioned over a fatal shooting in Tallaght over the weekend.

The pair, both in their mid-20s, were arrested yesterday evening and are being held at Tallaght and Rathfarnham garda stations.

Yesterday morning, a passerby found the man's body on a laneway in a rural area at Crooksling, south of Tallaght.

The man, named locally as Neil Fitzgerald and believed to have been in his 30s, had sustained gunshot wounds to the head and body.

Gardaí believe he was killed at the scene as bullet casings were found nearby, but no gun was located.

Detectives believe he died sometime between 9pm Saturday night and 9am yesterday morning.

Gardaí say there is nothing to indicate that his death was connected to the ongoing gangland feud in Dublin.

Dr Michael Curtis and a garda technical bureau team have attended the scene to conduct a full technical examination.

The body was removed to Tallaght Hospital for a postmortem examination to take place.

The two suspects in the case continue to be detained under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the area or who may have noticed anything unusual last night or early this morning to contact them at Tallaght Garda station on 01-666-6000.
