Police are investigating reports that a young man was subjected to a paramilitary-style shooting last night in Derry.

The 22-year-old is believed to have been abducted from his home yesterday evening.

He was then taken to Hass Park in Dungiven, where he was shot in the leg and later found at around 8pm, according to the PSNI.

His injury is not thought to be life-threatening.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Sean McGlinchey told the BBC that the victim told him he was from Derry.

"He said he couldn't understand why he was taken out and shot. He didn't know where he was, he was that confused," Mr McGlinchey said.

He added that the injured man "must have crawled about 20 or 30 yards down the road" to find help.

"A local resident spotted him, phoned an ambulance and stayed with him until an ambulance came so I have to commend him."

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
