The Dail has been debating the findings of the Guerin report, with the new Minister for Justice again paying tribute to Maurice McCabe.

Frances Fitzgerald says the State cannot be fooled into thinking that a one-off reform of the justice system will be enough to fix it forever.

She says the government now has a chance to introduce new systems to stop similar problems from recurring in future.

And she has made particular mention of Sergeant McCabe, whose allegations will now lead to a Commission of Investigation.

While the Fianna Fáil justice spokesman Niall Collins says the former Minister Alan Shatter must carry a lot of the blame for the way Sergeant McCabe's allegations were dealt with.

And the Dail has heard yet more claims of alleged corruption within the gardaí.

Pearse Doherty of Sinn Féin has used parliamentary privilege to name a garda who claims he has been frozen out of the force.

Garda Keith Harrison says he was victimised by other gardai after arresting a plain-clothes member of the drugs squad for drink-driving.

Deputy Doherty said the alleged drunk-driver was free to go about his work, while Garda Harrison - who arrested him - was deliberately targeted.
